Song Story: Flood

As an artist I find that extraordinary inspiration often comes from the seemingly ordinary happenings of life pondered with new perspective. Such is the case with the writing of the song, “Flood” from my EP album, “Crossing Over”.

Almost two years ago, Atlanta and it’s surrounding suburbs experienced some major flooding due to heavy rainfall. Having just relocated from there, the news stories got my attention. As I scanned the pictures of devastation I was in awe of the inescapable influence of the water. Which got me pondering...

Those who have been directly impacted by the powerful force of a flood can testify to the indelible mark the water leaves behind. Buildings that take months to design and even more to build can be wiped out in a single moment. Majestic landscapes that seem untouched since creation surrender new shape as the hands of the waves carve and sculpt. So it is with God’s love...

And that is where this song began:

Like a flood washing over me
It covers up everything I see
No return and no escape
I’m forever changed

Like a flood, I am overcome by your love
Like a flood, relentless and untamed
Like a flood, it’s your love

Suddenly all I know is gone
Washed away in the water’s arms
Currents race and make their mark
Saturate my heart

You’re creating streams through parched land
Devastating dreams built on sand
Like a flood

“I hear the tumult of the raging seas as your waves and surging tides sweep over me. But each day the Lord pours his unfailing love upon me, and through each night I sing his songs, praying to God who gives me life.”-Psalm 42:7
