Spice of Love

Why is it that my mom's pbj sandwich always tastes better than the ones I make? I discovered her secret one day while looking through her spice cabinet. There it was stored inconspicuously next to the garlic salt; a small tin labeled "Love". I grabbed the tin with curiosity,  opened the top, turned it upside down and shook. Empty.  After inquiring about this special spice, I discovered that my mom bought the tin at a women's conference to remind her that everything we do should be seasoned with love.

Our actions leave a lingering taste in people's mouths that depend on the seasoning we use. Am I acting out of duty? Pretty bland. Resentment? Bitter. Selfishness? Rotten. But love? Love is the all-purpose go-to seasoning. Just the right blend of sweet and savory. It goes well with anything.

I was reminded of this recently when I had an opportunity to bring a meal to a family in need. Since it was last minute, I just doubled what we were having: turkey loaf, potatoes, and green beans. Not so exciting to a self-proclaimed foodie, but the next morning I received a call from the family thanking me for the meal and saying how wonderfully delicious it was. I had to smile as I recalled my mom's secret spice. I didn't tell them what the extra ingredient was, but I think they tasted it!

Love: it makes everything taste better!
